If there aren’t already enough things to worry about – and to get organized – prior to going on a trip, luggage is one thing that has really risen to the top of the list for many travelers. As a travel professional myself, I know that I spend time thinking this through, so I can only imagine what it is like for those not in the business – in other words, our guests!

At the start of the year, many people set New Year’s resolutions, and I’ll bet that the top 10 New Year’s resolutions include goals such as “lose 10 pounds” or “get to the gym more.” This year, I did see a lot of people who have added “do more volunteering” to their list. It’s on the top of mine.

Rachel and I spent our Sunday evening helping the Humane Society of Dayton with their annual fundraiser – Cat Walk at the A-Cat-Emy Awards 2010! Instead of simply writing humane society checks, we decided to volunteer – and had a whole lot of fun in the process.

I recently read a blog @flyingwithfish on traveling safely and it really got me thinking about how I am so trusting while I am on a plane. The article was on in-flight theft and how thieves go unnoticed. Read this to protect yourself – and your participants. The first rule of thumb I always follow when I am packing luggage is: DON’T take anything with you that you would hate to lose or can’t be replaced. But – that is not enough! Here are some observations from @flyingwithfish:

I just hosted a group at the brand new Aria resort in Las Vegas’ CityCenter. It is amazing to me that Las Vegas as a destination has been able to reinvent itself over and over; and CityCenter has definitely brought a new spin to some emerging trends. For instance, CityCenter itself holds six LEED Gold certifications from the U.S. Green Building Council and is a global showcase for design and sustainability. So if an organization is big on Green initiatives, CityCenter is a new place to explore.

You’ve heard about them, and a survey I read recently said 69% of corporate travelers interviewed have them – but what are travelers young and old so excited about? Moving into 2010 we are a mobile workforce and expect to have access to information we care about instantly – through an e-mail or an app. From airlines to hotels, companies are adapting their websites to be mobile-compliant, and some have taken it to the next level by developing dedicated applications for smartphones to meet the new mobility demands.

Since the foiled Christmas terrorist attack we have had a month focusing on airport security, the no-fly list and the hottest topic of them all – how much can a Full Body Scan machine really see? Apparently, A LOT – but they are trying to make consumers feel better by telling you they will BLUR your face. This will be a source of debate in 2010 over privacy rights, etc… but I thought it would be helpful for my followers to understand what exactly these huge machines are doing when you step into one – so here are some Body Scanner facts:

I was watching my twitter feeds this week and it struck me how many people were making “Travel Goals” outlining places they want to see and passport stamps they want to get this year. It got me thinking: where are some places you can’t go because they are so ultra-exclusive (and you’re not in that club); we don’t know about them (they aren’t on any travel websites); or they are closed to the general public and virtually impossible to get into. So after doing some searches, I found that one of my followers (@Leonardodm) had compiled such a list.

So you think you can keep up?  I’m ready to go any time, any place. You could say I’m an action-junkie. When you see us out, you’ll recognize me, I’m the one chatting to anyone and everyone, because you never know who you might run into.

My philosophy: Life is an adventure! Live it. I‘m on the move . . . I like to do new things and push myself to new levels. I don’t sit on the sidelines to watch the game; I’m in it to win it!

I've spent the last 20 years in the travel and tourism industry . . . it is what I know and love. My experience encompasses all aspects of travel from pre-sale to operations and registration to auditing . . . I have been there, seen it all and done it all. I have the vision to create innovative, high-end, high-impact incentive programs that deliver strong ROIs for my Fortune 500 clients. I demonstrate financial acumen through my negotiating skills, keen project management skills and in-depth understanding of program logistics.

I have intimate knowledge of the ins and outs of the process. I know what hotels, destination management companies and venues expect, and what they will concede . . . it is all in how you ask the questions and willingness to collaborate for a win-win outcome. I serve on several industry advisory boards and attend industry events around the world to share knowledge and to stay “ahead of the curve.”

My mantra: See the world. Make a difference. Leave things better than you found them.
