When I found out I was heading to Hawaii for eight days, I already had a jaded opinion of it. I had heard from several of my friends that because I’d already been to Tahiti, Hawaii would seem too touristy. Man, was I wrong; maybe it was where I stayed or the fantastic activities, but I enjoyed every day I spent in Kauai. After a very long flight from the east coast, I arrived around 4:00 PM Hawaii time. The sun was not shining and it was beginning to rain. When the pilot came over the speaker welcoming us to the island he mentioned the unusual weather.

The Four Seasons Costa Rica isn’t about the crystal chandeliers or dramatic lobbies, though those are amazing. It’s about the best service that a hotel can provide in a secluded setting that is surrounded by nature. From the moment I arrived, the staff was great and genuine, which is the key. They were always more than willing (and very fast) to give me a ride up to the suites on the hill on a golf cart. I quickly became friends with the drivers, and traded quips about our respective home countries.

If you’re looking for a touristy hot spot in Bora Bora with live entertainment and a view, Bloody Mary’s is the place to go. It has a great laidback environment where you can take pictures and enjoy the island in its best form. And if you are into fresh seafood, well I don’t think you’ll find any fresher than here; their seafood is prepared right in front of you. The fish is laid out when you walk in; you select your cut and a few cooking minutes later it’s there as your meal.

As my Caribbean adventure continues … I gain another stamp in my passport! The first time I went to St. Barts was via a cigarette boat one afternoon while I was staying in St. Martin. This was one small, fast boat. I’ve always thought of St. Barts as a playground to the rich and the famous, a place where they take their yachts and sail around all day. Well, there were several huge yachts there, trust me on that!

While hiking in Costa Rica, I thought I made a great choice, basing my decision on climate, terrain and my own personal fitness level.

The hiking tour described itself as using different types of transportation to descend into the rainforest, followed by a hike to and swimming at a waterfall. The tour lasted eight hours. Okay, I thought. No problem. I’m fit and based on the description, I can do this.
