What better way to drink in Sydney than while cruising the Sydney Harbour, and what better way to do that than by relaxing on a yacht … and that’s exactly what I did the day after I arrived in Sydney. And did I ever need it. I was still adjusting to my 24 hours of flying from the states to Australia from the day before, and I wasn’t exactly happy about my early wake-up call. But once I got some fresh ocean air, I changed my mind.

Being a world traveler, I know that you should always place liquids in a zip-lock bag; but knowing something and actually putting it into practice are two different things. A couple weeks ago, I boarded a cruise to the Bahamas, thinking that I did an excellent job of packing and getting prepared. I even read the cruise docs close enough to note that there were not any irons in the staterooms because of the fire hazard.

So you’ve booked your cruise and you’re ready to roll. You may be wondering “where to eat?” No worries. If traveling aboard the Paul Gauguin there are many dining options and the menu choices are great. Here are my recommendations. First, try Le Grill, located on the top deck; you will probably want to make reservations for an evening dinner. The atmosphere is laid back, and it’s open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I ate breakfast here every morning. They offer breakfast buffet-style with made-to-order hot items.

As my Caribbean adventure continues … I gain another stamp in my passport! The first time I went to St. Barts was via a cigarette boat one afternoon while I was staying in St. Martin. This was one small, fast boat. I’ve always thought of St. Barts as a playground to the rich and the famous, a place where they take their yachts and sail around all day. Well, there were several huge yachts there, trust me on that!

If your travel plans take you to a destination near the ocean, put a catamaran tour on your list of things to do … you won’t regret it. Trust me.

I love cruises. They are the ideal self-contained vacations; everything you need is right there. You’ve got a variety of restaurants from which to choose, all the activities you could want to keep you entertained, plus swimming, lounging, sunning and relaxing. What more is there?

My first stop on my whirlwind trip of the Caribbean was St. Martin. I stayed in the all-inclusive Sonesta Maho Beach Resort. If you’re going to do a trip like this, make it an inclusive stay! The Sonesta Maho Beach Resort is located on the Dutch side of St. Martin, just a short two-minute drive from the airport. Word of warning: watch out for the taxi drivers. They will shove as many people into one taxi as possible and keep the air conditioning down very low, then charge you a per person rate for the two-minute ride. Just be careful.

So my next adventure took me in an entirely different direction: three different countries in fifteen days. Could I do it? Was I up to the challenge? Yes I was, and yes I did. My travels took me to St. Martin, St. Barts and Anguilla, all places I’ve read about and dreamed about going to. These countries feature the top beaches, best party places and trendiest hot spots around. Want to know more? Check back in to read about each adventure.

A cruise alone offers so many exciting activities on board to keep you busy; add Tahiti into the mix, and you’re in heaven. Here are some of my favorite things to do on a Tahiti cruise.
