On a recent trip to San Francisco, we ventured north for a Napa Valley Wine Tour. The Napa Valley is just about an hour from San Francisco. A Napa Valley wine tour is just the kind of activity to while away a California day. Wineries can really do no wrong in my book. What better way to spend time with or making new friends, take in a little history, architecture, culture and art and then there’s great wine. What could be better than a Napa Valley wine tour?

For a first-timer going to Boston, the Wine Riot was a great way to get out, meet some cool people and learn a ton about wines that won’t cost you an arm and a leg.  Wine Riot is put on by Second Glass who give you a crash course on how to best attach the Wine Riot – explaining the mobile app built for remembering all of the wines at the , show...

You know when you go on a trip, and it seems like there is one tiny little detail that everyone failed to mention to you? Well that little teeny tiny detail that I missed before the trip to Breckenridge was none other than the dangers of altitude sickness - also known as mountain sickness.

The altitude affects everyone differently, and unfortunately for me, the extreme altitude in Breckenridge meant a little unpleasantness. So, I invite you to learn from my experience.

My first Breckenridge ski vacation was a memorable experience; I loved the clean air, the beautiful mountains, skiing, Breckenridge lodging and all the fun activities that brought out the outdoorsy part of me. Because of this, I am going take a brief departure from blogging about group travel, and spend some time on Breckenridge as a whole. Here’s my experience with Breckenridge transportation:

Air: via Frontier Airlines

I loved:

  1. The Uffizi. Formerly the head “office” of the Italian state, the Uffizi houses all the Renaissance paintings you can handle, including one of my personal favorites, The Birth of Venus by Botticelli. (I have the print hanging in my bedroom.)
  2. The Bargello. A smaller museum filled with sculptures from the master. My personal favorite is Michelangelo’s Bacchus, the god of wine, of course!

I was watching my twitter feeds this week and it struck me how many people were making “Travel Goals” outlining places they want to see and passport stamps they want to get this year. It got me thinking: where are some places you can’t go because they are so ultra-exclusive (and you’re not in that club); we don’t know about them (they aren’t on any travel websites); or they are closed to the general public and virtually impossible to get into. So after doing some searches, I found that one of my followers (@Leonardodm) had compiled such a list.

On this particular day it was off to Muckross Farms for a tour and look around a few farms still practicing farming in the traditional way before the advent of electricity when all work was done by country people, their animals and very manual farm machinery.

The next day it was off to Killarney via train. The train was easily attainable, inexpensive and a great way to get from one place to another without having to rent a car. It was a 3-hour train ride to Marrow and was wonderful to see the scenery and the hundreds of farms go buy. Once in Killarney I went over to the Hotel Europe for lunch and to see their new renovation. The lobby, meeting space and spa facilities are outstanding.

So as you know, I am a fan of all things in the city. I prefer not to sit on a beach all day, even though I’m from the East Coast and have spent many summers basking in the sun on the beach. For as long as I can remember I have said I can die happy if I get the opportunity to visit Australia. As I’ve started to travel more, my list has expanded. Some are unusual, while others are touristy. Here is my travel bucket list:
