OVERVIEW

Things to do in Salzburg

Art lovers call Salzburg, Austria the Golden City of High Baroque; historians refer to it as the Florence of the North, or the German Rome; and music lovers know it as the Festival City – birthplace of Mozart and home of the world-famous Salzburger Festspiele (Salzburg Festival).

The city of Salzburg lies in a basin on the northern border of the Alps, and it is surrounded by Kapuziner Mountain, Monk Mountain and Gais Mountain. The setting could not be more perfect. Salzburg also lies on both banks of the Salzach River, at the point where it is situated on the northern edge of the Alps and pinched between two mountains, Kapuzinerberg and Mönchsberg. In broader view are many beautiful Alpine peaks. Salzburg is renowned for its nearby ski resorts set before a backdrop of snow-covered peaks, overlooking crystal-clear lakes and voluptuous green valleys. Guests will be able to take complete advantage of the fantastic skiing and snowboarding facilities.

Throughout the country are glorious architectural reminders of the once-powerful Hapsburgs, who dominated central Europe for seven centuries. Man’s contribution is a trove of buildings worthy of such surroundings: beginning with Prince-Archbishop Wolf-Dietrich von Raitenau, who began his regime in the late 16th century, Salzburg’s rulers pursued construction on a grand scale. Astonishingly, they all seem to have shared the same artistic bent, with the result that Salzburg’s many fine buildings blend into a harmonious whole – a cohesive flowering of Baroque architecture.

Perhaps most famous as the birthplace of Mozart, the city of Salzburg is a popular travel destination with visitors and boasts beautiful landscapes, a rich culture and delicious food.

Touring around Salzburg led us to the Birthplace and residence of Mozart. Just as expected, I really enjoyed our trip in this enchanting city. Along with other shoppers and tourists, we navigated along the Getreidegasse and graced ourselves with some local cuisines and souvenirs. Have you heard of “The Sound of Music” film? Well, we were also able to visit the place where it was filmed along with other curious travelers.
