Things to do in Queenstown
Located on the shores of Lake Wakatipu and surrounded by the rugged mountain peaks of the Remarkables, Queenstown is one of the South Island’s most popular resort towns and an ideal base from which to explore the Southern Lakes and Fiordland region. Famous as New Zealand’s “Adventure Capital,” Queenstown offers a range of year-round outdoor activities from bungee jumping and whitewater rafting to parapenting and jetboating. The compact town center is only a square kilometer, with amenities and shopping within easy walking distance. Nightlife is varied with a casino, live bands, nightclubs and bars open until early morning. Lake Wakatipu provides year-round boating and fishing. Visitors can enjoy a cruise on the lake aboard an historic steamship, visit a high-country sheep station or take a minicoach into the breathtaking Skippers Canyon, steeped in goldmining history.

Whether it’s for sight-seeing or shopping, Queenstown will always be an ideal place to spend the holidays with your friends and family. With delightful places to enjoy and take pictures, there’s also plenty of activities to choose from.
Queenstown is an amazing place! It's gorgeous, for one.. surrounded by Lake Wakatipu which makes for great summer basking, and the Remarkables mountains, which are great for skiing or snowboarding in the winter.
While you're there, be sure to check out one of the billions of 'adventure' activities you can do there. I lived here for a year and worked for Nomad Safaris, a company that does off-road Lord of the Rings Tours, but other great companies include AJ Hackett for Bungy Jumping, Canyon Swing for, well, canyon swinging (similar to bungy jumping) and Mad Dog Riverboarding for River Boarding.
You can also go canyoning, white water rafting, skydiving, paragliding.. you name it, you can do it in Queenstown.
It may be a little touristy, but if you live here or spend long enough here, you'll find a network of travelers and locals alike who live it up in this little oasis. Living here was a time I will never forget.. so much fun!
