After dinner at Da Moritz on my second night in Vienna, we headed to Eulennest on Himmelpfortgasse. The name of the bar means “owl’s nest” in German, and it was a small, intimate venue, with seating at only a few tables and the bar. I enjoyed a glass of Austrian wine and a few sips of the apricot schnapps. I also enjoyed perusing the wine selection, which, by the way, was the décor of the bar – the walls were covered with various bottles of all shapes and sizes. The wine bar is more of a local’s spot, so be sure to know your surroundings and a few phrases of German before going there. I was there on a Friday evening and the place was busy but not too crowded. The owner was very welcoming and made great recommendations. Though not a typical late-night bar, the owner will keep it open past its 12:00 am closing time if they are busy. Being so close to a lot of restaurants, Eulennest is a great way to end the night.
