My first stop on my whirlwind trip of the Caribbean was St. Martin. I stayed in the all-inclusive Sonesta Maho Beach Resort. If you’re going to do a trip like this, make it an inclusive stay! The Sonesta Maho Beach Resort is located on the Dutch side of St. Martin, just a short two-minute drive from the airport. Word of warning: watch out for the taxi drivers. They will shove as many people into one taxi as possible and keep the air conditioning down very low, then charge you a per person rate for the two-minute ride. Just be careful.
So here’s what I thought of St. Martin overall: the hotel was decent; I did like that I was right in town so I was near everything. I could walk to plenty of the restaurants and casinos, and there was even a nightly show, as well as live music at many of the restaurants. I did have two bad experiences at the Maho, however: my ceiling leaked so my luggage got wet, and my dry cleaning was temporarily lost. My ceiling was fixed after my second night of asking that something be done about it, and my laundry was returned at check out; but it still created un-needed headaches.
