Dining at the Four Seasons

Not everything is perfect in Costa Rica, as I soon found out. This is a serious luxury getaway off the beaten path and therefore you are really limited as to where you can go out to eat and what you can see. The closest city is 45 minutes away … that meant I ate breakfast, lunch and dinner at the Four Seasons. But that was okay; I could deal. After all, we’re talking about the Four Seasons!

After I got all settled into my luxurious room, I headed down to Papagayo Restaurant for a late lunch, which just happens to be a great spot for breakfast as well … a huge buffet. Anyhow, the Caribbean Jerk Chicken Salad was awesome; it was incredibly fresh and it definitely hit the spot on such a hot day. Another tasty option: their vegetarian dish. This is a great Four Seasons spin on a local dish; I highly recommend trying it. And while you are there, don’t overlook the cocktail menu; lots of choices that are perfect to cool you down after spending a day in the tropical heat. Papagayo Restaurant is an open air building, which is quite inviting especially when there is a gently blowing breeze.

Another great dining option is Tico’s Lounge. I went there one night for dinner and had the sushi, which was quite superb. The drink of choice there is guaro sours. It’s actually a specialty drink in Costa Rica, so you will definitely want to give it a try. I liked it so much, in fact, that I bought a bottle to bring back home, but it’s not the same as having them freshly made in Costa Rica.
