Chicago Cubs Game – Rooftop!

Chicago Cubs Game – Rooftop!

I am not a sports fan, and I don’t claim to be one, but a baseball game over the weekend in Chicago made me realize why baseball is America’s favorite pastime.

Since it was Sunday, July 4th, spirits were high headed into the game. Our gang was decked out in “America” gear, all sporting red, white and blue. But just because those were Cub’s colors, doesn’t mean we were rooting for the home team. We were all from Ohio, and went to undergrad at University of Dayton or Cincinnati, so the Red’s were our team!

Someone had the good common sense to know that 15 of our friends would have a hard time getting stadium seats, so we booked a rooftop. I had never been, and since I am not a baseball fan, not sure if it’s unique to Chicago or not. Basically, the homes across the Wrigley are outfitted with a three tier rooftop deck, and a clubhouse. For around $120, you get an aerial view of the stadium / game, all you can drink (tea, soda, bottled water, craft beer, wine) and all you can eat buffet, and a grill making five kinds of burgers – even a vegetarian variety! It was much larger than I expected, since there where so many levels, and some of the roof tops were connected.

The house also had a computer room, 20 plasma TVs, and a game room where some kids were hanging out. The website also claims there is a meeting area, which I didn’t see.  It was clearly over-sold, which was the only down side, there wasn’t always a seat, which left me and many other people standing.  My suggestion is to get to the rooftop early (it opens one hour before the game) and grab the stadium seat you want if you are going to be intently watching the game.

Overall, it was a great atmosphere, and worth the extra money to have air conditioned and sunshine views of the game, plus a great party.  Not the best option to bring kids, but definitely a place to bring friends or relatives that want to have a good time at a baseball game. It didn’t hurt that the Red’s won 14 -3 either!

This was the rooftop we had tickets to: http://www.skyboxonsheffield.com/ the website said it was available for groups, which would be a great option for a company event.
