Although I spent less than 48 hours in Rhode Island, my family and I found delicious dining around Newport.
Dining in Newport on the Water
The Mooring Seafood Kitchen and Bar http://www.mooringrestaurant.com/
Located right on the water, the views are amazing. My family and I had lunch here after my brother-in-law’s graduation. It had been a long and tiring day, and we are all looking forward to a great meal. It is one of the more high-end restaurants in Newport, and known for its culinary experience. My sister and I were debating on what to try, and opted to get different things so we could plate swap. She tried Today’s Nori to start. Basically a sushi roll filled with a local fish of the day. And I had the Farmer’s Salad and Ahi Tuna Sandwich. The seafood here was great, but I was looking for some of the North East Coast’s finest!
Casual Dining in Newport
The Barking Crab http://www.barkingcrab.com/
For dinner my family and I decided to try a more casual restaurant – The Barking Crab! I loved this restaurant from the moment I walked it. They had great music playing and the staff was so friendly and helpful! My sister and I decided to try a few of the local brews, while my parents opted for the special mixed drinks. Both choices were great! To start we tried the chilled shellfish platter. Now this is more like it! We had fresh lobster, crab claws, shrimp and oysters on the half shell. The seafood was so fresh, and The Barking Crab made it as easy as possible to eat, so it wasn’t messy! For dinner I tried the evening special – the Coconut Shrimp Salad. Another great choice! After eating we spent some time talking to the manager for suggestions for brunch the next day. Like I mentioned before, the staff was so nice and didn’t treat us like “stupid tourists.”
Newport Dining Hot Spot
Brick Alley Pub http://www.brickalley.com/
Sad to leave, but for our last meal in Newport we tried the Brick Alley Pub. The place was packed on Saturday for lunch. I was very impressed by the large menu, and the service was out of this world! Our food arrived only 10 minutes after ordering. Here I tried a Bloody Mary (yum – and the perfect amount of spiciness) and the Crabacado – a scoop of Maryland crab over avocado with melted Muenster cheese on an English muffin. It was delicious! It is offered in single and double portions (two English muffins) – get the single, the portions are huge! The restaurant is fun and relaxing! Two things to note: no strollers allowed – because of the tight space, and allow plenty of time to peruse the menu – it’s an extensive one.
With all the great dining choices and fabulous food, be sure to visit this great town when you're hungry and let me know if you have other recommendations by posting a comment.
