You’ve heard about them, and a survey I read recently said 69% of corporate travelers interviewed have them – but what are travelers young and old so excited about? Moving into 2010 we are a mobile workforce and expect to have access to information we care about instantly – through an e-mail or an app. From airlines to hotels, companies are adapting their websites to be mobile-compliant, and some have taken it to the next level by developing dedicated applications for smartphones to meet the new mobility demands. This trend has become a hot topic and many conferences this year will be holding sessions dedicated to mobile applications. For instance, MICE will be holding a session on Mobile Travel Services in March at ITB Berlin, says Bedouk Worldwide Meeting News.
I wanted to know some of the “favorite” travel apps out on the market, so I turned to my Twitter community and here’s what they said:
TripIt – organizes your plans in a master travel itinerary that’s easy to share and access
TomTom – new GPS app provides spoken, turn-by-turn navigation and a business search tool
Jott – love this one – avoid TWD (texting while driving); the app converts voice messages and sends them via text to your contacts
EasyTranslator – the ultimate travel accessory, converts words and phrases from English to French, German, Spanish and 26 other languages
Cell phones may never replace your laptop, but doing work on your phone while traveling or on appointments is getting much easier …
