Parents and Travel Planners take note: Increased security measures could measure up to bored and cranky kids. Here’s a list of items to keep the little ones entertained during long airport delays. Oh, and don’t forget to pack snacks!

For Babies and Toddlers

  • any object that's bright and new
  • rattles and music-makers
  • safe plastic mirror
  • nested containers
  • board books
  • blanket, stuffed animal

For Preschoolers

  • picture or pop-up books
  • stickers and activity books,
  • lap-sized wipe-off easels
  • inexpensive sets of plastic figures (farm animals, dinosaurs)
  • travel-size Magna- Doodle, Etch-a-Sketch
  • LeapFrog Leapster-type handheld electronic games

For Older Kids

  • Klutz books, books on tape or real books
  • blank paper, for playing Hangman and Tic-Tac-Toe
  • regular deck of cards
  • travel-size Monopoly, Sorry, Battleship
  • small Lego sets (bring zipper bag to store the pieces)
  • BrainQuest
  • Small DVD players and movies
  • iPods
  • Game Boy-type handheld electronic games
