I knew when I booked a trip to Ireland that it would be a whirlwind but my time was tight and I had a great opportunity so I took it …
After a night in flight I arrived in Dublin at 8:30 AM and went over to my hotel – The Four Season’s Dublin – for a little coffee and a shower prior to starting my day of touring! No rest for this tired traveler – my panoramic city tour started at 11:30 AM with a combination of minicoach tour and a wonderful walk through a city park for some fresh air. It was great to start the trip off this way – to get my bearings and be able to note some places I wanted to make sure to revisit. My guide was fantastic – it took me a few minutes to adjust my hearing and pay attention as it seems everyone I had encountered so far this morning spoke very fast, had a fast whit and was passionate about Ireland. The tour was called 1916 Rebellion – which gave a high-level overview of the 1967 IRB, the Gaelic League, 1913 – 1914 Lockout and the Irish Citizen Army and the famines. It was fascinating!
After a wonderful morning it was off to the Hole in the Wall which touts itself as the longest pub in Ireland. But as the week went on I was in the Oldest/Shortest/Longest/Largest and Smallest pubs in the country – every pub and its owner have a story. The Hole in the Wall has amazing wood tables and “holes” in its walls; pints are served through them to patrons standing on the other side. And the pub serves outstanding fish-n-chips that I could not seem to get enough of!
