I know I’ve already blogged about Zip lining in Kauai, but I wanted to talk more about the actual experience, which was amazing. While waiting at the Kauai Backcountry Adventures building, my anticipation of sailing through the sky was great! The weather was beautiful and it was a very comfortable temperature outside; long shorts and a T-shirt were the perfect outfit for the day. However, my shoes did not qualify so I borrowed some from the Backcountry stash. One-size-too-large skate shoes and I was ready to go! The drive was short but bumpy and very dusty. At the top of the mountain I was given a safety briefing and a demonstration of how to zip the safest and fastest way. As I climbed the first platform, I knew there was no turning back. On the first line, I was told to run, jump and hold on tight; just to make sure I liked the ride. I LOVED IT! The next line I requested to go faster … my instructor told me to run, jump and CANNONBALL! So I brought my knees as close to my chest as I could. It was definitely faster, though my landing left a little something to be desired. Good thing I had “my” skate shoes; I was sliding all over the place because I was going so fast. And good thing they have guides to catch you. Each line was progressively longer, higher and also seemed to be faster. I took my flip video camera with me and was able to get some great shots from the air. I also took my digital camera, but hands down I preferred the video footage to the still shots.
