There are many great activities to choose from when visiting Kauai. This list is just the tip of the iceberg:
- Zip Lining – Wow, this was an awesome experience, way better than in Costa Rica. This zip-lining company has a young, enthusiastic staff. They are very knowledgeable and interested in your safety and having a good time. I went with a small group of eight, which I liked, because it meant less wait time and more zip time! Our ride up was very informative; we learned about the land and what was once there, who the owner was and why the owner was so passionate about preserving it. The only drawback was the bumpy ride—not too great for taking pictures. Here’s a hint: Get to know your guides on the way up; they will teach you how to zip fast! Once up we had a total of seven lines, each progressively longer. After the last line, a picnic lunch was provided. If you decide to go on this activity, be sure to bring a bathing suit because there is a water hole to swim in after. Just be warned: the water is very cold!
- Tubing – This was in the same location as Zip lining, and owned by the same company. It would have been fun, but unfortunately the water level was too low for me to go on it. The guided tour takes people down the historic irrigation system of the former Lihue Plantation – sounds pretty cool. Lunch is provided at the end.
- Rental car – Don’t miss this opportunity to explore Kauai on your own. You can pretty much see most of the island in a day. Waimea Canyon is amazing, and there are several other parks and waterfalls that are beautiful as well. This island makes for some great photo ops!
Hawaii was beautiful – the only drawback was the flight home. Returning to the Eastern Time zone can be difficult. (As is leaving beautiful Hawaii!)
