Spirit of Summer
Summer’s officially in full swing! Time to pack up the kids and head to an all-American, patriotic venue before school starts! From sea to shining sea, the U.S. is chock-full of sights that will have you humming America the Beautiful: Mount Rushmore, the Statue of Liberty, the Liberty Bell, Boston’s Freedom Trail. But nothing speaks “summer vacation” better than a trip to our nation’s capital, Washington, D.C.

Washington, D.C.
From Memorial Day through Labor Day, Washington, D.C. sizzles with funky festivals, powerful exhibits, family fun and marvelous monuments. It offers visitors exceptional museums (nearly all free), tree-shaded parks, outstanding restaurants and nightlife that seems to get better every year. It is alive with a special rhythm all its own – it blends a high-powered political climate with an ever-changing population of new talent and imagination. It is a city of noble beauty, white and majestic in marble and granite, yet modern and gentle at the same time. Tall, stately trees and gardens of glorious color, handsome monuments and museums, graceful architecture, the tree-lined National Mall, flowers bordering the meandering Potomac and imposing government buildings blend to create a panorama that is spectacular to behold. What's the Buzz
GoApril Gives Back to Community

GoApril, ZipSetGo.com’s Vice President, Sales and Alliances, graduated last month from Leadership Dayton, a program of the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce. The year-long program met once a month for a full day of workshops on hot topics affecting the Dayton area. According to Mescher, “It was a truly amazing experience – not only did I learn a great deal about our community, I made friends I will have for a lifetime. This program has really helped me focus on what my community and career efforts will be over the next three years.”

In other news, GoApril was also recently named Generation Dayton professional of the month. In addition to her Leadership Dayton and Generation Dayton activities, Mescher is a member of the Hospitality Management Advisory Council at Sinclair Community College and volunteers for the Special Olympics, Clothes That Work, Humane Society and the YWCA.

Travel Tips

Washington, D.C. is hot, hot, hot in the summer months. Follow these tips to keep your cool in our nation’s capital:

* Walk the National Mall in the early morning before the heat of the day – and crowds – set in.

* Duck into the air-conditioned Smithsonian Museums in the afternoon to escape from the heat and enjoy the exhibits.

* Bring plenty of bottled water.

* Dress in cool, comfortable clothing.

* Make arrangements with your congressman or senator for passes to the White House and Congress.

* Take advantage of the extended summer evening hours to visit the Washington Monument – it’s open until 10:00 PM all summer long.
