Me and the Deep Sea: Tahiti
I love to go fast. I work fast. I talk fast. I drive fast. See a pattern yet? So it should be no surprise that I would love jet skiing. This is one hell of a fast activity, so when the opportunity came up to go jet skiing, I was all for it.
There is something so powerful about being out in the open water, speeding along at over 40 miles-an-hour feeling the wind and water on your body.
One of my favorite jet skiing experiences was in a lagoon in Bora Bora. The water was like glass and you could go full-throttle without getting bounced around by waves. Talk about AMAZING! However, getting to the lagoon was a different story. The water was extremely rough; you had to really hold on or the waves would knock you off the ski, but once you cruised into the lagoon it was game on!
Jet skiing is a great activity: It offers you the opportunity to get to destinations where not even small boats can gain access. Many places offer guided tours to some of the local favorite spots and may feature boat-up/ski-up bars.
You will need to sign a waiver when you rent your jet ski … then with key in hand and your return time known, off you go!
Some tips:
- Know your limits.
- Safety first: Always wear a life jacket.
- Wearing sunscreen is a must; getting burned isn’t fun.
- If you’re with a group of friends and getting crazy on the water, set up some guidelines before you get started, i.e., how close will you get to each other, how fast will you go and what will your personal boundaries be. It all goes back to safety first.
Jet skis are fun, and you can have a blast on them, no doubt! But they are machines and can be dangerous if you’re careless.
