Living the Life in St. Barts

As my Caribbean adventure continues … I gain another stamp in my passport! The first time I went to St. Barts was via a cigarette boat one afternoon while I was staying in St. Martin. This was one small, fast boat. I’ve always thought of St. Barts as a playground to the rich and the famous, a place where they take their yachts and sail around all day. Well, there were several huge yachts there, trust me on that! Most were backed into their docks, while others were anchored further out.

But there’s so much more in St. Barts: there’s great shopping and plenty of restaurants. Here’s what I loved about St. Barts:

  • I loved the freshly made pastries and coffee that I picked up from the local bakeries in the morning. Everything was delicious!
  • Le Select in Gustavia – This is Jimmy Buffet’s “cheeseburgers in paradise.” I thought the place had a great, laidback feel to it. Plus, it was located right along the water in Gustavia. Definitely get a hamburger and fries; great price and good food. I recommend that you sit outside and order from the bar; they’ll call you when it’s ready. This place is easy to find and very inexpensive. Make sure you put it on your list.
  • DoBrazil – Laid-back environment. Located right on the beach. Plus, this is a great spot for pictures. The staff and managers were so nice, but they definitely did things on their own schedule. The restaurant overlooks a small beach and is a hangout for locals and tourists alike. It boasts two bars; one is situated upstairs and the other one is nestled downstairs.
  • Le Bar de l’Oubli – This joint is a small sports bar located across from Le Select, just off the Gustavia port. It’s a family-owned business and they will show American sports if asked.
