Things to do in Johannesburg South Africa

South Africa is one of the most diverse and enchanting countries in the world. Exotic combinations of landscapes, people, history and culture fuse in Johannesburg, one of the world’s most cosmopolitan cities. Affectionately known as Joburg or eGoli “City of Gold” in Zulu, the lively streets reflect the European, American and Australian culture of the immigrants who flocked to Johannesburg to seek their fortunes during the gold rush of the late 19th century. Traders and entrepreneurs from India, China, Japan and Eastern Europe laid down roots as the city flourished. In recent years, West, East and Central Africans have moved to Johannesburg, adding their own distinct stamp to the city’s profile. The result is a fantastic city that is the cultural capital of South Africa.

Visitors will find an eclectic choice of entertainment options in Johannesburg. Nightclubs abound; the world-famous Market Theatre in Newtown and the legendary Kippies lead the city’s thriving nightlife. During the day, shoppers will find Johannesburg brimming with quaint and delightful flea and craft markets from Rosebank Rooftop to Bruma Lake. The Apartheid Museum, The Museum Africa and the Hector Pieterson Museum will provide insight into the area’s development for the inquisitive history buff. Johannesburg is totally different from how I have envisioned Africa to be (animals, dry lands and a never ending view of safari) Spending a holiday in there totally vanished that misconception. There will always be nature Reserves and game drives but you could also go clubbing and there’s a theme park!!!  Gold Reef City with theme park consists of  4D Theatre, amusement park for kids ( had I known at first, I would’ve brought my kids) and countless attractions.  Not to mention the Brightwater Commons with numerous shops to choose from. Up for an extreme adventure? Then you should try out Bungee Jumping in Mogale, Sand Boarding which is located at Mount Mayhem, Kayaking on the Crocodile River, or Kloofing in the very famous Magaliesberg.  Plenty of things await when you and your family get a chance to visit Johannesburg.

I'd love to visit this booming city! The people are beautiful!
