OVERVIEW
Things to do in Istanbul
Known as the “City of the World’s Desire,” Istanbul is bordered on the north and the south by the Black Sea and the Sea of Marmara, respectively. The western half of the city lies in Europe while the eastern half is situated in Asia; the Bosphorus Strait flows in between the two halves. Istanbul, representing the Asian city nearest Europe and the European city closest to Asia, is a leading port whose importance is stressed by the age-old trade routes passing through the Bosphorus.
Istanbul is an old city, full of contrasts and colorful views. Istanbul’s over-abundance of important historic buildings and exciting new art galleries and museums provides visitors with more than enough to see during the day, but it’s at night that the place swings into high-velocity, mega-stylish action. Locals are flocking to see and be seen at an ever-growing array of bars, clubs and restaurants, bringing with them an infectious sense of style. However, much-loved city institutions such as the rakı-soaked meyhane (tavern) or tranquil çay bahçesi (tea garden) are still drawing visitors.

Culture & Etiquette
In a Mosque: Usually there are no admission fees for entry to the mosques. The bigger ones are open all day, but tourists shouldn't enter them during prayer. When entering a mosque you have to cover your head (women), wear long sleeves (arms and legs) and take off your shoes. If you happen to visit a mosque while somebody is praying, do not walk in front of them. Muslims didn't like anyone walking in front of them at prayer because it might be misinterpreted that they were praying to the person in front of them instead of to God.

Comments
The colorful mosques and museums in Istanbul never fail to captivate the heart of the tourists. I really enjoy strolling around, sightseeing and just enjoy this laid back city. It has some of the cleanest beaches. If you happen to visit this place, make sure you try out their famous Turkish Kebab, tea, sweets and other dishes. Ortakoy has some of the finest seafood restaurants and the night life in here is entertaining.
