Healthy Travel #TNI – Cherries Galore!

Thursday’s Travelers' Night In (#TNI) was fast and furious as always; 493 tweeps chimed in 4,760 times on how to stay healthy (and not so healthy) while traveling. Our sponsor @choosecherries was kind enough to give away some pretty great prizes:

The Grand Prize went to @letssitoutside:

  • A Tory Burch cosmetic case
  • A four-pound bag of dried cherries
  • A cashmere red pillowcase-socks-shawl travel set
  • A Longchamp carry-on bag
  • A cashmere wrap
  • Betsey Johnson 'Leopard & Bow' oversized butterfly sunglasses
  • Cherry red iPod Nano

And @Alltravelsites  @clevergayle  @travelpology all won:

  • A Tory Burch cosmetic case
  • A four-pound bag of dried cherries
  • A cashmere red pillowcase-socks-shawl travel set
  • A Cherry Marketing Institute tote

Some delicious-sounding recipes were traded and health tips exchanged, and we had some humorous talk of what we do that isn’t so healthy when we are out on the road. Here are some things that I learned about cherries:

  • Tart cherries are a natural way to fight jet lag because they are a great source of melatonin
  • Cherries rival blueberries in antioxidant levels (the greatest levels can be found in cherry juice concentrate)
  • Cherries have a natural anti-inflammation property, making them a great choice for a post work-out snack. Check out their Red Recovery Routine.

I was already a big fan of cherries. I love putting dried cherries in my oatmeal in the morning, or adding them to cookies; now they are even higher on my list knowing how great they are for me. I am definitely going to pack some for my next long plane ride as well.
