Wondering what to do in Sydney? Here are just a few ideas:

The Sydney Wildlife World, located near Darling Harbour, was a blast for our group of 20-to-40 somethings. Though the park is mainly targeted to families with children, we had a great time! Australia boasts some very unique animals, and some of the exhibits here were quite creepy. We were able to get up close and personal with snakes, bugs and reptiles, all native to Australia. (Not to mention the world’s “most dangerous” bird!) A highlight of Wildlife World was being able to get up close to small kangaroos and koalas, of course. Wildlife World will take a picture of you with a perched koala, for 15 AUD, which was worth it. The pictures came out great, and it was a good experience for all of us. Next door to Wildlife World is the Sydney Aquarium, but also not to be overlooked is a great restaurant, Hugo’s.

We also stopped by Q-Station, via yacht, which is a great place for history buffs. (I found it a little boring, especially when it was chilly and rainy like on the day I visited.) The station was a lot like New York’s Ellis Island where immigrants passed through and were held until cleared of any disease. It features historic buildings, some refurbished, like the acid showers, holding cells, hospitals and bunks. The grounds were nice, and offered a great view of the Harbour, especially from one of the graveyards. Our guide was friendly, a little funny and a bit long winded.

Another favorite activity in Sydney was the pub crawl; I went on one with a guide, and created several of my own. The Rocks district is perfect for this; friendly pubs are around every corner. Some brew their own beer, and most have a great selection of local brews. The Australians I met at the pubs were a welcoming, funny bunch. I didn't see a whole lot of reason to leave this quaint neighborhood, other than to venture downtown for some high-end shopping.

Bondi Beach is another area of the city that is a must see. I visited on a bus tour, which I think is always a good way to see a new destination. The beach itself is beautiful, and a great place to people and surfer watch.
