My favorite Boston restaurant from the weekend was Scampo, hands down. Scampo is located in the Liberty Hotel, a fairly new Boston hot spot – an old jail that was converted to a luxury hotel. The hotel is modern with both touches of elegance and a jail-themed flair. The restaurant itself is beautiful inside, modern chic Italian. The waiters and patrons matched the atmosphere; Scampo is definitely a place for Boston’s young and beautiful.

Whether or not you believe in global warming, it just makes sense to be respectful of the environment to preserve it for generations to come. Earlier this week I attended the Meeting Planners International (MPI) MidAmerica Conference in Cincinnati, Ohio. One of my favorite breakouts, How to Get Affordable Local, Organic Foods for Your Meetings and Events by Greg Christian, was incredibly informative, and really got me excited about green travel, something I am very passionate about.

I just hosted a group at the brand new Aria resort in Las Vegas’ CityCenter. It is amazing to me that Las Vegas as a destination has been able to reinvent itself over and over; and CityCenter has definitely brought a new spin to some emerging trends. For instance, CityCenter itself holds six LEED Gold certifications from the U.S. Green Building Council and is a global showcase for design and sustainability. So if an organization is big on Green initiatives, CityCenter is a new place to explore.

Recently, I have learned about people with gluten intolerance (extreme sensitivity to the protein – gluten – found in wheat, barley and rye). I wanted to really understand it and decided the best way was to jump in with two feet and try a gluten-free diet. And so I went cold turkey -- not for health reasons or because I had a gluten allergy, but to say I did it and see if there were any health benefits.

In an effort to not gain the typical winter pounds, I have been trying to eat healthier foods in the New Year. All of the oatmeal and vegetable dishes of late have gotten me thinking about the more indulgent foods I have enjoyed over the years. Here are my top five favorites from around the globe.

There are plenty of great places to dine and drink in Sydney, but by far my favorite turned out to be the Argyle, located on Argyle Street in  histroic “Rocks” area of Sydney. It didn’t come with the pretentiousness of some of the other more hip places that I had visited, and it still had a nice size crowd to mix with.

These Sydney restaurants offer great cuisine along with the fantastic views that you expect!

Waterfront Restaurant – If you are on George St., the main thoroughfare of the Rocks District, head down to the water; there are many restaurants featuring Mod-Oz cuisine and fresh seafood that are worth checking out. Notable is the Waterfront Restaurant, with spectacular views and great food. The Waterfront offers several private dining rooms, and a small bar with great martinis. There is also outdoor space right on the harbor for dining or private functions.

Walking around downtown Dublin, you will pass lots of souvenir shops, almost all of them boasting the best wool that Ireland has to offer. The highest quality and most-often carried brand is Avoca, known for beautiful and brightly colored sweaters and blankets made in Ireland.

All the bars in the Temple Bar area in Dublin are great. The people are fun and the atmosphere cannot be matched anywhere else in the world. However, the best is the aptly named Temple Bar; it has a little something extra. During the day there is live music upstairs; a little loud for conversation, but still great anyways.
