Things to do in Cap Ferrat
Of all the fabled playgrounds along the Cote d’Azur catering to the world’s wealthiest and most privileged people, there is none more exclusive and appealing than Cap Ferrat. The seaside village of St. Jean-Cap-Ferrat is nestled around a lovely sheltered bay on a peninsula jutting into the blue Mediterranean between Nice and Monaco. Noted for its tranquility and warm sunny climate, it has become the destination of choice among the rich and famous. To better appreciate its beauty, visitors can stroll the coastal footpath through the pine-forest to the beach or hike the Maurice Rouvier Walk which links the town to Beaulieu.
St. Jean-Cap-Ferrat is heavily residential with luxurious, discreetly built properties nestled among lush vegetation and protected from prying eyes by locked gate-ways. Many residences include their own private beach in keeping with the privileged life-style of the Cote d'Azur. Visitors will enjoy wandering along the port, shopping and exploring the area opposite the wharf, sampling delicious food or relaxing with an aperitif on the shady terrace of a local restaurant.
There are two major outdoor activities for visitors to experience. The most popular activity is swimming and sunning on any of the three major beaches in Cap Ferrat. Snorkeling and scuba diving are also indulged in by many. Hiking and bicycling are excellent activities for exercise amid the bounty of nature with its lush greenery and beautiful floral displays everywhere along the way.
The local zoological park houses over 300 animals which live in semi-freedom amid the tropical vegetation along the Mediterranean Sea.
Visitors can visit a unique palace and believe they have entered the fabled story of "One Thousand and One Nights” – the Villa Ephrussi de Rothchild. This mansion has been decorated with the treasures of the Baronness Béatrice Ephrussi de Rothschild and is surrounded by magnificent gardens sloping down to the sea. More than 5000 works of art are displayed together with an impressive collection of furniture, lamps and carpets. The Baronness was a world traveler and was inspired to create themed gardens like those of France, Spain, Italy and Japan. Her love of beauty is translated into the garden of the Muses, the Lapidary garden and the rose garden, all of which are highlighted by impeccably kept walkways, swaying palm trees and rare fragrances blooming in this earthly paradise.
