City Overview

Things to do in Boston

With its rich history, grand architecture and world-renowned academic and cultural institutions, Boston retains and radiates the glory it has garnered over the last four centuries. Founded almost 400 years ago, many of the most important historic sites blend seamlessly with modern architecture, creating one of the most architecturally diverse and interesting landscapes in the country.

Culturally, Boston is shedding its staid reputation, as artists, thespians and filmmakers rediscover the city’s rich resources and create new ones. With the recent explosion of avant-garde studios and the opening of the Institute for Contemporary Arts, Boston is poised to play a prominent role in the visual arts.

Boston is one of the most charming cities in America to visit. It has an old-world atmosphere which is infused with the excitement of today. Boston is the nation’s center of education and cultural activity. From world-class universities to renowned museums – from the symphony to the theater – Boston has it all!

Scampo: a Boston Favorite
by Rachel on Apr 20, 2010
File under: Boston, Massachusetts

My favorite Boston restaurant from the weekend was Scampo, hands down. Scampo is located in the Liberty Hotel, a fairly new Boston hot spot – an old jail that was converted to a luxury hotel. The hotel is modern with both touches of elegance and a jail-themed flair. The restaurant itself is beautiful inside, modern chic Italian. The waiters and patrons matched the atmosphere; Scampo is definitely a place for Boston’s young and beautiful.

So I only had seven hours to spend in the beautiful city of Boston, MA, which made it a very quick tour of Boston. Thanks to great suggestions from @adventurouskate and @theexplorateur, I hit up nearly every suggested place and had a great walking tour of Boston getting to sample the restaurants, Boston’s great brews, landmarks and historic places.

I love to eat in Boston!  I recommend Faneuil Hall Marketplace for some great restaurants - I order lobster & mac and cheese everywhere I can and the seafood is great!  And, visiting Cambridge and walking the grounds of Harvard is always a great afternoon!
