City Overview

Things to do in Bora Bora Tahiti

The islands in French Polynesia, and specifically Bora Bora vacations, have allured, inspired and enamored visitors since the time the islands were first discovered. Groups traveling to Bora Bora promise to have an unbelievable trip ahead of them.

The Bora Bora lagoon is its most treasured island feature and allows travelers many opportunities to experience it in a variety of ways. Windsurf, jet-ski, scuba dive, swim, bask in its warmth ... the list goes on. After a long day spent outdoors enjoying gorgeous weather and warm blue waters, guests can be romanced by amazing amenities that the Bora Bora hotels have to offer. But after dinner, the carpets roll (as they say) on these quiet islands. It's early to bed and early to rise to be sure to take in the unbelievable beauty the island offers.

The Bora Bora incentive trip is for those travelers who are well-traveled, not big on shopping, looking to escape and completely check out of their day-to-day realities. A wonderfully relaxing place to be, as well as a great island to experience, a Bora Bora vacation is truly an experience worth having.

Bora Bora Islands

Two towering peaks of sheer black rock dominate the center of the island and make an impressive backdrop for an assortment of blue waters that will dazzle the eyes.  There is real ambiance here – from the warmth of the air, scented heavily with tropical flowers, to fiery romantic sunsets that signal the end of another fabulous Tahitian day. Although most of today’s visitors arrive from all over the world, the Tahitian welcome is still very much the same – warm, friendly and genuine.

Bora Bora luxury is unsurpassed. From the quite ripple of the waters and the outdoor activities, to the Bora Bora spa experiences, fantastic meals and unexpected amenities found in the hotels, the trip promise a true escape.

French Polynesia Travel

The French Polynesia Islands are lush green islands with high peaks in the clouds surrounded by barrier reefs with beaches of black or white coral sand. Mountains are blue, violet or brown depending on the angles of the light as they reign majestically over the tranquil ocean of intense blue. Sunrises and sunsets take on fabulous colors ranging from pale yellow to scarlet red. The mountain sides flow with tumbling waterfalls and there are numerous broad valleys just asking to be hiked.

The windward island of Tahiti is the largest and best known of all the islands of French Polynesia. And, although it is the best known of all of the islands, it is probably the island that most will want to spend the least amount of time. Tahiti is shaped like the number 8 turned nearly upside down. The larger portion of the island, which is to the northwest, is referred to as Tahiti Nui (Noo-ee). The smaller portion to the southeast is Tahiti Iti (Ee-tee). The capitol city of Papeete (Pah-pay-ay-tay) is located on the northwest coast and is the governmental center of French Polynesia. The city of Papeete is reminiscent of a large European city and it seems odd to find a big city atmosphere in the tropical paradise that surrounds it. Papeete is not indicative of the spectacular beauty that the islands offer.  It is our experience that Papeete serves best as a city in which guests can get their bearings before they transfer to their tropical island of choice.

Where to Eat on your Tahitian Cruise

So you’ve booked your cruise and you’re ready to roll. You may be wondering “where to eat?” No worries. If traveling aboard the Paul Gauguin there are many dining options and the menu choices are great. Here are my recommendations. First, try Le Grill, located on the top deck; you will probably want to make reservations for an evening dinner. The atmosphere is laid back, and it’s open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I ate breakfast here every morning. They offer breakfast buffet-style with made-to-order hot items.

Best of Bora Bora

If you’re looking for a touristy hot spot in Bora Bora with live entertainment and a view, Bloody Mary’s is the place to go. It has a great laidback environment where you can take pictures and enjoy the island in its best form. And if you are into fresh seafood, well I don’t think you’ll find any fresher than here; their seafood is prepared right in front of you. The fish is laid out when you walk in; you select your cut and a few cooking minutes later it’s there as your meal.

I love cruises. They are the ideal self-contained vacations; everything you need is right there. You’ve got a variety of restaurants from which to choose, all the activities you could want to keep you entertained, plus swimming, lounging, sunning and relaxing. What more is there?

Running the Waves in Tahiti
by Sara Beth on Oct 01, 2009
File under: Bora Bora, Tahiti

There’s so much to do in Tahiti and circling the island on a jet ski has to be one of the most exhilarating
of them all. Just imagine … the sun beating down on you, the wind in your hair and the salt water
spraying up at you; what could be better?

I did this activity with a group of five other guests along with our instructor. After our safety briefing,
we received our equipment and off we set out into the deep blue sea. It was amazing; I was able to

Me and the Deep Sea: Tahiti

I love to go fast. I work fast. I talk fast. I drive fast. See a pattern yet? So it should be no surprise that I would love jet skiing. This is one hell of a fast activity, so when the opportunity came up to go jet skiing, I was all for it.

There is something so powerful about being out in the open water, speeding along at over 40 miles-an-hour feeling the wind and water on your body.

Windsurf, Scuba dive, snorkel, jet-ski and do a plethora of fun stuff Bora Bora, Tahiti has to offer. The list goes on with so many spectacular activities waiting in line for all the adventurous. Everyone deserves a break and Bora Bora is the place to enjoy and have fun! For the girls out there, make sure you check their Shopping centers for the finest black pearls and Jewelry. Go extreme with shark and ray feeding or go hiking and climbing. It seems like a the whole weekend isn’t enough for there’s so much to try and explore at this exotic island. So why don’t you book a flight and visit this most popular sailing destination in all French Polynesia.

Bora Bora is a beautiful place to travel to, but make sure you bring your sun screen! Most of your time will be spent on the beach under a blazing hot sun. It's the ultimate getaway for anyone in North America who can't stand the winter. If you're looking for things to do in Bora Bora, be sure to head over to the Coral Gardens as well as Matira Beach!

Bora Bora is one of the most magical tropical destinations I've traveled in my 25 years-six continents-90 countries of wandering around the world.  Not only is the scenery stunning, but the locals lend a subtle graciousness rarely found anywhere else in the world.  Yes, so the night life and shopping are limited.  If you want indoor night life - go to Vegas.  If you want outdoor night life - then Bora Bora is perfect -  grab a pillow and watch a big, fat, full moon rise up out of the lagoon or turn on your floor light and watch insanely-colored fish swim under your room while shooting stars erupt out of an ink black sky.  Bora Bora is also the place for crystal clear waters, stunning scenery, verdant mountains - and an endless assortment of both aquatic and terrestrial activities that whet the adventurous appetite of the most intrepid of travelers.

Loved Bora Bora but be prepared to go to bed early. Nightlife is not a feature of the islands. After dinner, it is off to bed. Be sure to bring a few good books too! And finally, shopping is not a huge draw to the islands. Don't expect the shopping experiences of say a Maui. The options are modest, but does allow for an opportunity to really get into the island culture.
