Vegas is known for gambling, clubs and fine dining, and of course shows! The heavy hitters like Celine and Elton John were on break when I visited, fortunately Vegas had much more in store.

After Thursday's Travelers' Night In all about hotels I was inspired. Hotels can be so much more than just a place to lay your head after a long day of adventure. They should embody the place you are visiting, and show off what the destination has to offer. So much of a hotel experience can be in the view from the room, something often overlooked. I know I have picked a cheaper 'garden view' rather than splurge for what could have been stunning scenery. But what better way to wake up and be reminded why it is we travel?

Before I go any further, I will admit that I am not a gambler, and don’t really have any use for clubs these days. I love really healthy food, and local specialties. So right off the bat, I am not The Venetian Las Vegas' normal customer. I may also be a customer service connoisseur. Whew. Now that that’s off my chest….

My travel bucket list contains mostly international treasures, but there has always been one domestic wonder I’ve always wanted to see; The Grand Canyon. So when we first decided to go to Vegas, my only request was not a club, a show, or time to gamble, it was of course the Grand Canyon! Since the Vegas trip was only a few days, viewing the Canyon by helicopter seemed like the best option.

Christmas shopping is one of my favorite parts of the season, right behind the smell of Christmas trees and my whole family sitting around a big table. I've almost completed my shopping for everyone else, and decided it was high time to make my own Christmas list. So here it is, ideas for me - but also for the traveler, cook and retail addict on your shopping list.

    For the Traveler

The holidays are quickly approaching, and that means it's shopping season! I am a firm believer in retail therapy, and an expert in gift buying. That being said, I am no Black Friday shopper...In fact, I have never been. The crowds and the competition take all the fun out of what should be a fun filled day of thinking of others and stretching my shopping muscles. I refuse to enter Wal-Mart, and if I never stepped foot in a Best Buy again I would be a happy lady. So this year, I am going to try hard to go local!

In a travel rut? I have not been traveling much lately, but it is suiting me well. I have had the chance to reconnect with those who I miss out on around town, and am enjoying staying home (for now). Now that Halloween is over, but Thanksgiving has not yet arrived, what is there to do while grounded in the Midwest? Plenty! Inspired by this weekend’s perfect fall weather; sunny, crisp with beautiful foliage, here are some ideas on how to get the most of the pre-holiday season:

    2011 Halloween Costume Ideas:

Zombie Steve Jobs. I love all things zombie, and usually take a normal costume and add zombie myself. This costume is super easy, so pay your dues to the genius and get a black turtle neck, glasses, dad jeans and fake blood.  Or pull out your Amy Winehouse costume from 3 years ago and go the same route.

Ever spend a little more than you were planning to on the road? I know I have run across a piece of jewelry I couldn’t live without, a dinner that I couldn’t resist, and a night out that cost more than I was planning. This week we asked travel addicts how to make extra money while traveling, and got some serious, and some seriously funny answers. Without further ado:

Last week I was back in lovely Los Cabos, where I saddled up to one of my favorite pastimes – horseback riding. I grew up with horses, so riding comes natural to me; however I know it can be daunting to first time riders – a 1,000lb animal can be a little intimidating! That being said, horseback riding is a great way to see a destination. Slow enough pace to take pictures, but still cover a lot of ground while having an unique experience. Wondering how to make the most of your ride?

I’m a culture fanatic! I love to immerse myself in a destination’s culture and experience the richness of what it offers through its people, foods, arts, entertainment, shopping and sightseeing. You simply cannot appreciate a destination without understanding its culture. It seems the more cultures I learn about the more I learn about myself! I’ll travel anywhere, anytime. Give me a days notice and I’m gone, ready to take on my next adventure. My philosophy: My current position has me working in the performance-improvement industry where I scout out exotic destinations, rate the best hotels, discover new restaurants, try out different activities . . . it’s a blast. I like to jump in with both feet and experience life first-hand. Life goal: To do what I’m doing now . . . travel to exotic places and continue to build my art collection. Right now, traveling the world is the biggest adventure this life has to offer.
